Construction is solid stainless steel with a piece of plastic to separate the two poles. It was also a perfect fit ALL the way in with only about 1/4″ sticking out to hold onto with my vinyl gloves – no “stretching” needed in my case. Might be a ‘tight squeeze’ for guys who are smaller than about 6.5″
